Първият музикален път е създаден в Дания още през 1994 г. от двама изпълнители. Сега Националният център за индустриални изследвания на японския остров Хокайдо е усъвършенствал този дизайн и е създал т.нар. Път към мелодията. Идеята е, че шосето издава различни звуци в зависимост от скоростта. Целта на занятието е това да достигне до съзнанието на водачите, които да спазват определена скорост - ако водачът иска да чуе мелодия, той трябва да кара, както е предписано - с 50 км/ч.
Ако скоростта се увеличи, музиката става почти непоносима, защото се деформира и изгубва.
Страната на изгряващото слънце "съживи" 33 участъка, което пък вдъхнови Калифорния да започне да "озвучава" пътищата.

When driving through the countryside of Japan we heard our tires make music at a certain point. We both looked at each other and threw the car 180 degrees around. At the start of the road, we saw a little sign saying that it was a music road in Japanese. We pulled the car over immediately and wiped out the cameras to make a movie about it. This was a strange and incredible occurrence to just drive over a music road like this in the middle of nowhere.
